Guide to Kahr Magazines
The P380 with LCI pistol from Kahr, chambered for the .380 ACP caliber, has a 2.53" barrel and an overall length of 4.9", with a height of only 3.9". It weighs in at just under 10 ounces (9.97 to be exact) without a magazine. The P380 with LCI is constructed of a black polymer frame, matte stainless slide, and textured polymer grips. The black polymer frame features 4140 steel Alloy inserts molded into the frame in the front and back for added rigidity and strength not found on competitive brands. The P380 with LCI features a lock breech, modified Browning type recoil lug, Kahr's six patents including the "safe cam" action found in all Kahr pistols. These features result in a micro-compact pistol in a fighting caliber with very little felt recoil and quick follow-up shots. The P380 with LCI does not have "double-strike" capability. The P380 with LCI also boasts "real" sights, featuring drift adjustable, white bar-dot combat sights that dovetail into the slide, with optional night sights available.
The quality of the tiny P380 with LCI from Kahr is unrivaled when compared to competitive brands. The barrel is a premium Lothar Walther match grade polygonal rifled design, allowing higher muzzle velocities for hollow point ammo than other conventional rifled barrels on competitive brands. The .75" slide is machined from solid 416R stainless bar stock and locks back on the last round. The P380 with LCI model features one high quality 400 series stainless steel 6 round magazine and one disassembly tool, standard with each gun shipped. In addition, the P380 with LCI utilizes an all metal magazine catch in the polymer frame to mate with the stainless steel magazine. The magazines are USA made and are plasma welded, tumbled to remove burrs, and feature Wolff Gunsprings.
The P380 with LCI is substantially smaller than Kahr's popular PM9, and proves itself to be an ideal concealed carry weapon. Its light weight and small size, combined with Kahr's reputation for reliability, makes it the perfect pocket pistol. The P380 with LCI model is also a strong consideration as a backup gun for law enforcement. The easy to use sights are just an added bonus to this already desired pistol.
Loaded Chamber Indicator:
The loaded chamber indicator functions to inform the user about a loaded chamber condition. The casing of the ammunition causes the loaded chamber indicator to pivot and move out from a flush sitting position in the slide. The LCI (loaded chamber indicator) is pivoted in the slide and one end of it is in the breech surface of the slide while the other end is tensioned by a compression spring. The spring tends to push the LCI flush with the surface of the slide.
When an ammunition casing enters the chamber, the rim of the casing pushes the end tip of the LCI upwards compressing the spring. This causes the LCI to move above the surface of the slide thus warning the user that an ammunition round has been chambered. The warning is visual as well as physical as the LCI can be visually checked or felt by the operator. Once the ammunition casing is ejected out of the chamber (barrel), the compression spring pushes on the LCI to move it back to "unloaded position".
Magazine Disconnector:
The function of this feature is to allow the firearm to discharge only when there is a magazine inserted in the lock position in the product. The feature includes addition of a disconnector in the mechanism that works in conjunction with the magazine and trigger bar to either make the firearm functional or dysfunctional as per the requirement.
When the magazine is inserted in the firearm, the lip of the magazine pushes onto the magazine disconnector rotating it about a pivot point and tensioning the disconnector spring. This causes the contact between the trigger bar and disconnector to be released causing the trigger bar to move to fire position. The fire position is when the trigger bar is in contact with the cocking cam and the pulling of the trigger will transfer the motion to the cocking cam via the trigger bar releasing the striker (firing pin).
When the magazine is removed from the firearm, the disconnector is pulled down by the disconnector spring releasing the tension on it. The disconnector in turn will push the trigger bar out of functional position as it is pushed out of contact from the cocking cam. As a result when the trigger is pulled in this situation, the trigger bar will not transfer the motion to the cocking cam and hence there will be no releasing of the firing pin for the firearm to fire.
